Krabi Rock Climbing

Krabi is covered with limestone rock mountains. They are ideal formations for climbing. Krabi rock climbing started in the early 1990's and has become a travel destination for climbers from all over the world.

As more and more climbers come to Thailand for Krabi rock climbing, it is not hard to understand why Chiang Mai climbing is experiencing an influx of climbers as well. Chiang Mai is home to some majestic rock formations and is now a well known destination for an excellent climbing experience.

The Basics of Krabi Rock Climbing

Krabi rock climbing is extremely fun and totally amazing, but it is also dangerous. That is not a negative comment about Krabi, because rock climbing is a risky activity. If you are a beginner, make sure you climb with an experienced partner or group of people. Perhaps another family member is a climber, or you can hire a qualified climbing guide to help test you basic safety tips.

Please remember to be safe. Practice safe climbing techniques. Check out all your gear, even if you have hired a tour operator. It is your responsibility to keep your family safe. Do not give that responsibility to someone else. Climbing is an excellent way to appreciate nature and build relationships with your family. You do not have to conquer the hardest routes or the steepest climbs. Just have fun and be safe on your family holiday in Krabi.

Where to climb

The best rock climbing in Krabi is in the Railay Beach area. In fact, it is comparable to any rock climbing in the world. There are many courses or routes set up among the limestone rock formations. Thailand uses the French system for grading climbs. There are hundreds of routes in the Railay Beach area from 5a's for beginners right up to the 8c level for experienced climbers. The level of climbing can be as simple as bouldering or as challenging as tackling over vertical cliffs. This makes Thailand a popular rock climbing destination since it has something for everyone.

Ko Phi Phi also has some excellent climbing areas. It is not as popular as Railay Beach, but it is just as scenic.
