Krabi Snorkeling

Krabi has many excellent snorkeling spots. However, all of the good Krbi snorkel sites must be reached by boat. One option is to rent a longtail boat at Ao Phra Nang beach and ask the boatman to take you to some nearby islands for Krabi snorkeling. Several years ago, the long tail boats at Ao Nang became regulated. To rent a boat, go to the counter across from Phra Nang Inn and purchase a ticket for your family. You must buy a ticket for each family member aged 12 and older. The prices are set. You can no longer bargain with individual boat operators.

Renting a boat from the beach and heading out to snorkel is not the best option. The boatman will probably not have any snorkeling gear and it will be difficult for you to know if he is taking you to the best snorkeling sites. I recommend you book a tour with an organised program which takes you to the best snorkeling sites in the Andaman Sea. Krabi snorkeling tours usually leave from Ao Nang Beach, Railey Beach and Krabitown.

The most popular Krabi snorkeling sites are Poda Island, Chicken Island, and Taloo Island. Other islands offer good snorkeling sites as well. Organised tours will provide lunch, snorkeling masks, life vests and transportation to the various islands.

I remember my first visit to Krabi and my first experience of snorkeling in the Andaman sea. It was an experience I will never forget and hope to have the opportunity to explore the underwater world of Southern Thailand again.
